The Center for Injury Research and Prevention (CIRP) is a comprehensive, interdisciplinary pediatric trauma research center at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia dedicated to preventing injury, the leading cause of death for children and adolescents. The Center is guided by a mission to achieve three Key Outcomes: 1) Reduce unintentional and intentional injuries and fatalities in children, youth, and young adults and their psychosocial consequences; 2) Promote the advancement of injury prevention science (e.g., increase understanding of injury mechanisms and their consequences); and 3) Narrow the gap between evidence and practice. The Center’s dedicated staff of pediatricians, behavioral scientists, epidemiologists, psychologists, engineers, statisticians, and communications professionals works to achieve these goals across several research priority areas, including Teen Driver Safety, Child Passenger Safety, Traumatic Stress, Safe Communities, and Pediatric Biomechanics. CIRP is also the home of the Center for Child Injury Prevention Studies (CChIPS), a National Science Foundation-funded Industry/University Cooperative Research Center that includes Toyota Motor North America Inc. as a member of its Industrial Advisory Board.
