Announced in January of 2011, Toyota and VTTI have partnered up to research the effectiveness of an electronic coaching and monitoring system for newly licensed teenage drivers to help reduce unsafe driving behaviors. Toyota will have an active role in guiding this “Driver Coach” project alongside partners including the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) of the National Institutes of Health.

Toyota and VTTI have also partnered in a three-year project to test and compare the benefits of a brain fitness training program for senior drivers. Researchers believe that with brain appropriate training, older drivers can increase their useful field of view, which typically shrinks as we age.
