EARTH-FRIENDLY PRIUS GETS NEW, FRIENDLY OPTION PRICES

As Earth Month 2007 begins, Toyota is preparing to celebrate several anniversaries with a special savings bonus.

It's been 70 years since Toyota's founding, 50 years since Toyota came to America and 10 years since the launch of the Toyota Prius. To celebrate, the company took the occasion to announce that it's helping a great car to become an even greater value. At the New York International Auto Show, Toyota revealed new pricing with substantial savings on "ECO-nomic Savings" packages of optional equipment and features. The savings range from $600 to $2000, and will be in place indefinitely.

Features in the HG package, for example, include AM/FM CD with six speakers, auxiliary audio jack and MP3/WMA playback capability, Smart Key System, backup camera and Vehicle Stability Control. Its price is reduced $600. The top-of-the-line NW Package has a 6-disc in-dash CD changer with nine speakers, Bluetooth® wireless technology and a voice-activated DVD navigation system, among many other features. That one is priced to save the consumer $2000.

Other packages offer ECO-nomic Savings Bonuses as well: $600 on HI, $800 on HK and $2000 on NL. Each of the top option packages on Prius Touring, designated NR and NM, offer savings of $1750.

Jim Farley, Toyota Motor Sales group vice president of marketing, said, "The ECO-nomic Savings Bonuses on Prius mean that a great value is getting even better. We are happy to be providing still more reasons to consider this great family car."

More good news for consumers was the announcement that production increases have made Prius available immediately at substantially all the nation's Toyota dealers. Additional Prius hatchbacks are also being added to the Toyota Rent a Car fleets at Toyota dealers nationwide. At these 900 dealerships, customers may rent and test-drive a Prius for a full day or more before deciding on a purchase.

To coincide with the beginning of Earth Month, the Highway to the Future: Mobile Hybrid Experience, with Toyota's Hybrid Synergy Drive® as its centerpiece, arrives in New York and San Diego for two big Earth Day events.

In New York, the East Coast exhibit will be amid a collection of eco-friendly, sustainable technologies displayed at EarthFair 2007 at Grand Central Terminal. A wide variety of events and exhibits will be carried on inside the terminal and outdoors along Vanderbilt Avenue. The West Coast tour will be in San Diego during EarthFair 2007 in Balboa Park. That event, which has run annually since 1990, is the nation's largest free environmental fair.

As Earth Day dawns, Toyota surpasses the half-million mark in cumulative sales of hybrid vehicles in America. Prius, the first gas-electric hybrid vehicle in large-scale production, was launched in Japan in 1997 and came to America in 2000 as a 2001 model. Globally, sales of Toyota hybrid vehicles are nearing the one-million mark.
