Recognizing the powerful influence of film and television on public opinion, the Environmental Media Association (EMA) encourages the entertainment industry to include pro-environmental content in its productions. Each year, the organization presents EMA Awards to producers and writers who have done outstanding work in getting out the environmental word.

For the third consecutive year, Toyota was the Presenting Sponsor of the EMA Awards ceremony, and Toyota hybrids had star presence. Prius and Highlander Hybrid were displayed, and the many guests and nominees who drove Prius hybrids pulled right up to the celebrity "green carpet" in a special "Prius-only" lane. The paparazzi were out in force, making for plenty of great "Prius moment" photo opportunities.

Jeffery Tambor, Rachel Hunter, Jason Schwartzman, Andy Dick and Dana Delany were among the celebrities who presented awards in categories including TV Episodic Drama and Comedy, Children's Television, Documentary and Feature Film.

Woody Harrelson gave a special EMA Missions in Music award to Willy Nelson, recognizing his support of family farming and environmental causes, and John Lovitz presented the EMA Board of Directors Ongoing Commitment Award to his friend, actress Daryl Hannah, for her lifelong dedication to sustainable and humanitarian lifestyles.

A reception showcasing organic and sustainable products, food and fashion followed the awards ceremony.

Toyota President Yukitoshi Funo congratulated EMA in the awards program: "By 'walking the walk' you are making a significant statement to a wide audience about the importance of caring for the environment." Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger sent a message of congratulations to EMA: "I salute you for your dedicated efforts to promote environmental education, scholarship and action among those in the entertainment industry."

In addition to encouraging pro-environment content in film and television, EMA promotes earth-friendly practices within the production community. For example, its program to stop building sets using lumber and plywood made from lauan - a tree indigenous to vanishing rainforests - has received support from many prominent producers and directors.
