THE PRICE IS RIGHT ON PRIUS AND CAMRY HYBRIDSBeing greener has never saved you so much green. Prius and Camry Hybrid MSRPs have been reduced in order to promote ECO-nomic Savings Bonuses. Find out how Toyota was able to make it happen.
In April 2007, Hybrid Synergy View reported the good news that ECO-nomic Savings Bonuses are available on packages of optional Prius equipment and features. The savings, which are still in place, range from $600 to $2000.1 Now there's more good news for consumers: MSRP starting prices on both the 2008 Prius and the 2008 Camry Hybrid have been reduced. The 2008 model year Prius MSRP starts at a remarkably low $21,100 for the new standard grade and $23,370 for the Touring model.2 These new prices are made possible by removing certain equipment that's been standard on the previous Prius and making that equipment optional. It includes cruise control, a tonneau cover, heated rearview mirrors, wheel trim ring and seatback pockets. Factory option packages now include these features. The Toyota Camry Hybrid for 2008 is offered at lower prices as well. The hybrid version of America's favorite car is now available at an MSRP of $25,200. As with the Prius, a lower base price on the Camry Hybrid is made possible by removing certain equipment that is then offered as options. For example, 16-inch alloy wheels are replaced by steel wheels with covers, and a JBL® audio system is replaced by a single-CD player with six speakers. The alloy wheels and JBL audio system are offered as options, as are a leather-covered steering wheel and shift knob, and EC mirror with compass. Two new optional equipment packages are being introduced for the '08 Camry Hybrid. The UP option, "Upgrade Package," including Homelink® and the other features mentioned above, has an MSRP of $1150; the UT option, "Upgrade Package with DVD Navigation," which has all the same features plus an electronic navigation system, has an MSRP of $2350.
