Yellowstone National Park is renowned for its untouched, pristine beauty. When a building is constructed there, it needs to be done right.
That's why when Yellowstone wanted to build a new visitors center, they wanted it to be certified by the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) organization. As the building concept was developed, the project manager reviewed the criteria and aimed his design team toward a Silver LEED® certification.
Toyota partnered with Yellowstone to aim higher by providing experienced LEED® certified engineers to guide the design team to a Gold certification instead of Silver. Since 2003, Toyota has built a Gold-certified building on the Toyota, U.S.A., campus in Torrance, CA, and several certified dealerships across the country.
By sharing what they know about materials, technology and construction, Toyota pushed Yellowstone's building design further. The new visitors center uses recycled and renewable building materials, low-flow plumbing and state-of-the-art electrical systems, and it was designed to require minimal heating during the cold months.
The result of this partnership is a building that exceeded the Silver goal to nab the Gold.
