TOYOTAS PLAGUED WITH HANDLING ISSUES AT NEW HAMPSHIRE

LOUDON, NH (July 1, 2007) -- In Sunday afternoon's NASCAR Nextel Cup Series (NNCS) race at New Hampshire International Speedway in Loudon, Denny Hamlin earned his first win of the 2007 season and first career NNCS win at New Hampshire.

Dave Blaney made history by earning the first pole for Toyota in NNCS competition and led the first 30 laps of the race in his No. 22 Caterpillar Camry. But the handling in his car went away early and his Bill Davis Racing team struggled to try to get it back throughout the 300-lap Lenox Industrial Tools 300.

"Our set-up just died in the long run, especially once some rubber got put down on the track," said Blaney, following the race. "Just a few laps into the race we were done because the car just got so tight. Then we would lose most of our brakes after about 10 or 12 laps so we just couldn't go anywhere. We just couldn't seem to get the car adjusted right no matter what we did."

No. 00 Burger King Camry of David Reutimann started today's race in 17th and his Michael Waltrip Racing team adjusted the car throughout the race in order to make the car more drivable for Reutimann. But when a plug wire fell off, Reutimann had to make his way to pit road for repair, which put him several laps behind the leader resulting in a 38th place finish.

"When we started the race we weren't very good, but then we came in and made an adjustment -- we went back out and the car was much, much better," said Reutimann, following the race. "Then we dropped a cylinder, which was when the plug wire fell off and we lost a bunch of laps trying to get it put back on. That pretty much relegated us to where we were going to be. The car was pretty decent the better part of the day, but once we got seven laps down it was just too hard to battle back from that."

The No. 36 360 OTC Camry of Jeremy Mayfield finished 40th after sustaining damage to the splitter on the car. Mayfield's team lost several laps making repairs in the garage.

The next NASCAR Nextel Cup Series race on the schedule will take place on Saturday, July 7 at Daytona International Speedway.

In Saturday afternoon's NASCAR Busch Series (NBS) race at New Hampshire International Speedway in Loudon, Kevin Harvick became the 21st different NBS winner at the one-mile speedway. David Reutimann scored the best finish for Toyota with an eighth-place finish.

Reutimann earned a top-ten finish in his No. 99 Aaron's Dream Machine Toyota Camry when his crew chief made the decision to leave him on the track during a final caution flag rather than bring him to pit road for tires. Reutimann was able to gain valuable track position, while battling carburetor problems toward the end of the race, and finish eighth.

"We ended up having a carburetor issue there toward the end of the race and the motor seemed to be running flat," said Reutimann, following the race. "We just couldn't get the car to turn from the center-off. The motor ran good all day and I don't know what happened with the carburetor -- on one of those last pit stops it started popping and spitting so something went wrong and they'll work to figure that out. I'm real proud of the call that we made at the end to stay out and not take any tires. It was the right call and that's what got us a top-ten finish today."

Jason Leffler, driver of the No. 38 Great Clips Camry, finished 12th and moved into the fifth position in the NBS championship points standings.

Massachusetts-native and hometown favorite, Bobby Santos, started from the fourth position in his No. 91 Riley-D'Hondt Motorsports Camry and ran in the top-ten throughout the early laps of the race. But contact with another car forced the team to the garage for lengthy repairs and Santos would finish 33rd.

"It was just a very disappointing day," said Santos, following the race. "We had a top-ten car and the guys did a great job, but we were taken out of contention when the No. 90 (Stephen Leicht) car got into us. It caused quite a bit of damage to the left-front of the car and we had to bring the car to the garage to get it fixed so that cost us quite a few laps. But the guys gave me a great car and I know we could have gotten a top-ten or even top-five finish today."

Dave Blaney finished 35th in the No. 10 Hass Avocados from Mexico Camry after experiencing ignition problems.

The next NASCAR Busch Series race on the schedule will take place at Daytona International Speedway on Friday, July 6.

In Saturday night's NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series (NCTS) race at Memphis Motorsports Park in Memphis, Tenn., six Toyota Tundras finished in the top-ten after a long battle between eventual race winner, Travis Kvapil and rookie Tundra-driver, Brad Keselowski resulted in a late-race caution when Kvapil made contact with Keselowski's No. 9 Team ASE Tundra.

Keselowski, the 23-year-old Michigan-native, was filling in for Ted Musgrave who is serving a one-race suspension following last weekend's race at Milwaukee. Keselowski, who earned his first career NCTS pole for the race, was able to lead 62 of the 200 laps in the event in hopes of showcasing his talent behind the wheel of the Germain Racing Tundra.
"I guess I need to look more on the positive side," said Keselowski, following the race. "I don't know how hard he hit me, but I guess it was hard enough to get me turned around. It's just one of those deals, but it's hard to look past it. Hopefully this will lead to some more opportunities. Driving this Team ASE Toyota was pretty special."
Defending race winner, Jack Sprague, finished second in the No. 60 Con-way Freight Tundra. He started 15th, but exceptional pit stops by his Wyler Racing crew and strong Tundra underneath him allowed Sprague to pick off positions throughout the night on the .75-mile Tennessee oval.

"The guys did a great job and we made some great adjustments," said Sprague, following the race. "My truck was a little loose, but it rotated in the center pretty good. We didn't get tight at all, which was good. You have to give up something at this race track because it's not going to be perfect on both ends. At the end, I was a little faster than Travis (Kvapil), so I wish it was the O'Reilly 225."

Mike Skinner finished fourth in the No. 5 Bill Davis Racing Tundra, followed by Aaron Fike (fifth), Ryan Mathews (sixth), Johnny Benson (seventh), Todd Bodine (eighth), Terry Cook (29th) and Ken Butler (33rd).

With the fifth-place run, Skinner retains the NCTS points lead after 12 of 25 races, now holding a 103-point edge over Ron Hornaday. Bodine (third), Benson (sixth), Sprague (seventh), Fike (eighth) and Musgrave (10th) are also in the top-10 in points.

The next race on the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series schedule is July 14 at Kentucky Speedway.
