REUTIMANN EARNS CAREER-BEST NNCS FINISH; CAMRYS FINISH THREE IN THE TOP-25 AT RICHMOND"The car drove good pretty much all night," said Reutimann, following tonight's race. "We messed around with the track bar and it didn't seem to make much of a difference on the car. I think we were making it worse so we put the track bar back to where we started with tonight. That really made the car come back to life and I really wish we would have done that earlier because I feel like we might have been able to get a better finish. All in all this was a good night for us and everybody did a real good job. Last week we didn't get to finish what we started and this week I really feel like we did."
The No. 22 Caterpillar Camry of Dave Blaney was involved in a lap-243 incident causing minor damage to the splitter on the front of his Toyota. The Bill Davis Racing team was able to make repairs over several pit stops keeping him on the lead lap. But on lap-294 Blaney was involved in a more serious accident causing significant damage to his car. The team was able to make repairs and finish 34th.
"A couple guys got turned around right in front of me -- there was a bunch of smoke so I really couldn't see much," said Blaney, following the second incident. "I got the brakes locked up and slid into them. I guess on got on the brakes too hard trying to drive around them and then slid right in."
Other Camry drivers in tonight's race include AJ Allmendinger (23rd), Brian Vickers (24th), and Dale Jarrett (31st).
The next race on the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series schedule is Sunday, September 16 at New Hampshire International Speedway.
Brian Vickers was able to earn the fourth consecutive top-10 finish driving the No. 10 Fan1st.com Camry for Braun Racing in tonight's NASCAR Busch Series (NBS) race at Richmond International Raceway. Vickers battled within the top-five late in the race and was able to take the checkered flag in the sixth position.
"We weren't too bad tonight -- we were able to get a top-10 finish, but we could have been better," said Vickers, following tonight's race. "The tires really got us there at the end. I think we could have had a top-five, but our pit stops really hurt us the most. Trent Owens (crew chief) did a good job getting the car better all night long with all the pit stops -- we just got killed on the pit stops. Every time we would get some good track position, we would lose it in the pits. It happens sometimes -- everybody makes mistakes, but that's really what hurt us tonight."
Jason Leffler ran within the top-10 throughout much of tonight's race, but the brakes went away in his No. 38 Great Clips Camry late in the race and Leffler would finish 11th.
"We just struggled with the handling all night -- we kept trying to make adjustments, but couldn't get any better from the center of the corner to the middle of the straight-away," said Leffler, following tonight's race. "There toward the end we lost the brakes and that is probably what cost us a top-10 finish tonight. I'm disappointed because we really thought we had a car capable of a top-five or at least a top-10 finish."
Other Camry drivers in tonight's field included Todd Bodine who finished 20th in his fourth NBS start of the season and David Reutimann who finished 23rd.
Reutimann remained third in the NBS point standings and Leffler held on to fourth following race 28 of 35.
The next race on the NASCAR Busch Series schedule is Saturday, September 22 at Dover International Speedway.
The next race on the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series schedule is September 15 at New Hampshire International Speedway.
