Pruett Puts Lexus on the Front Row in Utah

TOELLE, Utah. (Sept. 19, 2008) – Scott Pruett put his #01 Telmex Lexus on the outside of the front row in qualifying for Saturday’s Grand-American Rolex Sports Car Series season finale at the Miller Motorsports Park in Toelle, Utah.

Pruett, who will team with Memo Rojas and former Indy Lights champion Alex Lloyd on Saturday, held the top spot until the last lap in qualifying when former Toyota Formula One driver Ricardo Zonta slipped by for the pole position.

Pruett will clinch at least a share of the driver’s championship simply by starting tomorrow’s race, while Rojas will need to complete the mandated 30-minutes in the car to guarantee his first title. In addition to the championship, the Chip Ganassi Racing teammates can also tie the record for most victories in a season with seven by winning tomorrow.

Saturday’s green flag is scheduled to drop at 1:00 p.m. EDT, with SPEED live coverage of the 1000 kilometer/seven-hour event.

Notes:

- By starting Saturday’s race, Lexus driver Scott Pruett will win a share of the 2008 Rolex Sports Car Series title, giving him an American record eighth major sports car championship, breaking a record he currently holds along with the late Peter Gregg.

- Memo Rojas can become the first Mexican driver ever to win a major U.S. championship simply by finishing the 30-minute minimum for points at Salt Lake City. The second-year driver has registered eight wins in his first 27 Rolex Series events.

- A victory in tomorrow’s race would give Lexus a sweep of the three Rolex Series endurance races this season. The #01 Lexus already has registered victories at the Rolex 24 at Daytona and the Watkins Glen Six Hours.
