Toyota Drag Racer Named 2008 Sport Compact Driver of the Year

Sport Compact drag racer Scott Kelley was named 2008 Sport Compact Driver of the year at the Battle of the Imports awards ceremony Sunday night. After finishing third in the nation in points and setting a national speed record a month ago in Oregon at a blistering 146.67 mph, Scott was given this special award for a season of excellence behind the wheel. “I was completely stunned” Scott said, “I certainly did not expect this and I am extremely humbled that the media and my peers feel I was the best driver this year”. “We had a really consistent car all year and we set new personal bests at each of the last four races”. “Next year is going to be really exciting as we have our own class on the NHRA Full Throttle series and we will be able to run National and Divisional events”. “We will basically be the only front wheel drive import on the property and will stick out like a sore thumb in a sea of domestic V8’s which is really fun. We had a really good time earlier in the year when we ran the Winternationals and raised a few eyebrows with our 9 second blasts out of a 4 cylinder engine. “We will not have much of an off season”, Scott explains “as we are going to work really hard during this period so we can come out swinging and bring home a championship for Toyota!” The Kelley Racing Corolla will run a few non-points races in November and do testing through January in preparation for their first race the NHRA Winternationals in Pomona, California February 5-8.
