Frequently Asked Questions
- I don’t understand how this works. How can I get more information?
- For complete Offer Terms and Conditions, eligibility restrictions and a detailed description of the program, visit toyota.com/shareathon/term-and-conditions.
- If I don’t have a Twitter account, can I still participate?
- Since Shareathon is all about sharing on Twitter, unfortunately there is no way to participate without a Twitter account.
- What is Twitter?
- Twitter is a micro-blogging service, but they do more justice describing themselves than we ever could. Visit twitter.com/about to learn more.
- How do I get a Twitter account?
- A visit to twitter.com/signup will get you set up with a free Twitter account surprisingly fast.
- What if I am under 18 or I don’t live in the U.S.?
- Shareathon offers are only available in the 48 contiguous states and Alaska to those eighteen (18) years of age or older or the age of majority in their state of primary residence (at least nineteen (19) if a resident of Nebraska or Alabama, or at least twenty-one (21) if a resident of Mississippi). If you’re from outside the U.S., the offers are not valid.
- What do I get for tweeting?
- For tweeting, you’ll get a certificate that can be redeemed for a prepaid debit card after you purchase or lease a new Toyota. The value of your debit card starts at $500 and increases by $50 each time someone retweets your message in the next 48 hours; the maximum amount you can earn is $1000. See Offer Terms and Conditions for full details. Once you have your new Toyota, go to toyota.com/shareathon/redeem and enter the certificate code and VIN of your car. Pending verification, you will receive your prepaid debit card within 4-6 weeks.
- What do I get for retweeting?
- For each person whose Shareathon message you retweet, you’ll get a chance to enter into the sweepstakes to win a new Toyota Prius. The first time you retweet, you’ll receive a link to a sweepstakes entry form. Completing this form will give you one (1) entry into the drawing. Each retweet after that will automatically give you an additional entry. You can enter a maximum of 10 times. Keep in mind that each retweet must be of a different tweet (i.e., you cannot retweet the same perons’s tweet more than once). See Sweepstakes Official Rules for full details.
- What can I do to get more retweets?
- Use your awesome social networking skills to spread the word. We’re talking everything from Twitter and Facebook to e-mail and—if analog communication is more your thing—good ol’ fashioned word of mouth. You can also click the social media icons found next to your tweet visualizer to send out reminder messages to your various online networks. Every person who retweets your Shareathon message gets a chance to enter to win a Prius, so there’s a little something in it for them, too. Just remember, anyone who wants to retweet your message will also need a Twitter account.
- I retweeted my friend’s Shareathon message, but they didn’t get their $50 credit for it. What should I do?
- Check to see that your retweet contains both the hyperlink and hash tag included in the original tweet. Sometimes, our system has trouble tracking retweets if one of these elements is missing. For best results, we recommend retweeting either directly from Twitter (i.e., clicking “Retweet”) or from the Shareathon web site. Also remember that if you’ve already successfully retweeted your friend’s message once, they won’t be able to earn any additional money from your retweets.
- How long do I have to get a Toyota vehicle?
- You must purchase or lease your new Toyota between December 12, 2011 and January 3, 2012.
- What if I bought my Toyota during Toyotathon but before Shareathon?
- The Shareathon offer begins on December 12, 2011. If the car was purchased before December 12, 2011, you will not be permitted to redeem the offer.
- How long after the purchase do I have to redeem my certificate?
- You MUST redeem the certificate at toyota.com/shareathon/redeem by January 31, 2012 at 11:59:59 p.m. PST or the certificate will be void.
- Are there any restrictions or fees associated with my prepaid debit card?
- The prepaid debit card is valid for 12 months from the issue date and is subject to separate Terms & and Conditions, available at toyota.com/shareathon/debit-terms-and-conditions. There are no activation fees; however, if your card is lost or stolen, there is a $10 fee associated with reissuing the card.
- Why do I have to provide my Social Security number to get my certificate?
- Since your prepaid debit card is regarded as taxable income, you must provide your Social Security number for tax reporting purposes. Note that you will not be asked for your Social Security number when tweeting the Shareathon message, but only if and when you redeem your certificate to receive your debit card.
- How long until I get my reward?
- After redeeming your certificate, it will take approximately 4-6 weeks before your prepaid debit card arrives in the mail.
- Can I give away or sell my certificate?
- The certificate is non-transferable and cannot be sold. The name associated with the certificate and the name associated with the VIN must match. In the event of a discrepancy, promotion entities reserve the right to contact the participant for further verification prior to fulfilling the prepaid debit card.
- Certificates have run out. Will Shareathon happen again?
- The future is a mystery, but if you were a fan of Shareathon this year, please share it on Facebook and Twitter.
- What should I do if I’m having problems with the site?
- We’re sorry to hear you’re experiencing issues with the Shareathon site. Please e-mail our support team at support@toyotashareathon.com with a brief description of your problem, and we’ll get back to you ASAP.
