Mike Iaconelli has never feared performing for a camera. His post-fish-catching shouts and bass-boat-based break dancing episodes, combined with his consistent tournament success, keep TV cameras pointing his direction.
But in 2008, 'Ike' breaks new ground by actually captaining a TV show, titled 'City Limits Fishing'
Six original episodes of the popular new show just finished airing in the Friday evening time-slot on the Versus network. The show takes its name from the unique format in which Iaconelli tries to catch a limit of fish from waters within the metro shadows of America's largest cities, including New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, Washington D.C., Sacramento and Tampa.
'The coolest part of the whole show is that we're catching fish on camera in waters where people didn't think fish even lived,' said Iaconelli, the 2006 Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Angler of the Year.
'The show is unique because we're focusing solely on urban settings, and we're proving that you don't have to drive 10 hours to experience great fishing. The show is exciting, it's fast paced and it's educational. A big part of the story line is that we are racing the clock to catch a limit of fish within a six-hour period. That brings the element of reality to the show. Plus, it's cool in that we showcase the unique elements of each city along with featuring the people that live and work there,' explained Iaconelli.
Iaconelli says the episode featuring him chasing bass on the Potomac River in Washington D.C. is sure to garner great ratings, but the episode filmed in his hometown of Philadelphia was most special to him personally because that's where he first learned to land largemouth bass on a consistent enough basis to build a pro angling career.
The shows are filmed in the fall of the year so as not to hinder Ike's focus on his full-time job as a Bassmaster Elite Series angler from February to August.
