PRO NEWS
September 2007
As I sit down to write this, we are close to wrapping up yet another tremendously successful season for the Toyota-United Pro Cycling Team.
With a pair of stage wins at the inaugural Tour of Missouri, Toyota-United remained the only domestic team to win a stage in each of the three “grand tours” in the United States. In fact, we have won four stages in those three races just this year (the Amgen Tour of California, the Tour de Georgia and the Tour of Missouri), including the final stage in two out of three of them. Our record in the five U.S. grand tours over the past two years is just as solid with seven stage wins, including two by now-European pro J.J. Haedo.
But winning isn’t the only thing that has made this season so great. From the streets of Santa Rosa to the steep slopes of Brasstown Bald to the lightning-fast finish near the St. Louis Arch, we’ve taken notice of your enthusiasm and support for the team. Ivan Dominguez, after winning the opening stage of the Tour of Missouri in Kansas City, said it best: “I could hear everyone shouting ‘Go Toyota-United’ and ‘Go Ivan’ and it made me pedal a little harder.”
Dominguez enjoyed his most successful season in seven years as a pro, winning 14 races and reaching the podium another eight times. Our other “Ivan” on the team, Ivan Stevic, also had a banner year – winning the B World Road Race Championship and earning a spot in the 2008 Olympics. These are just two of the numerous successes that we have enjoyed this year.
Of course, we could not have achieved any of it without your support. I truly believe we have the best fan base of any team in America – cycling or otherwise. At last count, there were 20,000 of you out there, all with a vested interest in rooting on the red, white and blue of Toyota-United. On behalf of the entire team of riders and our talented staff, I thank you.
Regards,
Sean P. Tucker
