5.7L V8

381 hp and 401 lb.-ft. of torque, a 6-speed automatic transmission, plus a standard Tow Package with added engine and transmission oil coolers equal heavy-duty towing capability. 8 Add Double Overhead Cams (DOHC), a 32-valve head design and Dual Independent Variable Valve Timing, and you get a drivetrain that can tow a space shuttle. 10

View Specs

4.6L V8

Tundra’s 4.6L V8 is packed with tech, delivers 310 hp and 327 lb.-ft. of torque via a 6-speed automatic transmission. It also benefits from Double Overhead Cams, a 32-valve head design and Dual Independent Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (Dual VVT-i), so all the power you need is ready when you need it.

With all these powerful options to choose from, it helps to have it all organized in one place. We created the matrix above to help you choose the best grade and cab for your needs. Towing capacity

It pulled the space shuttle...so, yeah, it can handle your trailer and boat. 10 Tundra is available in six models that can tow more than five tons, 8 and 4x2 Regular Cab Long Bed with available 5.7L V8 has an available towing capacity of up to 10,500 lbs.

TOW/HAUL Mode

Included on Tundra models with the 5.7L V8 and Tow Package is a TOW/HAUL Mode for the 6-speed automatic transmission that extends the use of the lower gear ranges, helping to prevent the transmission from awkwardly shifting or “hunting” for the right gear when towing. The system also increases acceleration, pulling power and engine braking. 8

What is it?

SAE J2807 is the standard for tow ratings set by the Society of Automotive Engineers, SAE. Toyota agreed to adopt the standard, and was the first manufacturer to have done so on all of our trucks and SUVs. In fact, since 2010, the entire Toyota lineup has been SAE J2807 compliant.

View Video

Why is it important?

When you are towing a heavy load, 8 your boat or your RV, the last thing you want to be worried about is whether or not your truck can handle it. This is why SAE J2807 was created: to establish an industry-wide standard to ensure that your vehicle’s driveline, cooling, lubrication, braking and other important systems are engineered and tested in real-world situations with your towing needs in mind. If there are different standards for everyone it makes it hard to make an honest comparison. This only hurts one person: the customer.

Tundra: The first SAE J2807 compliant full-size pickup

Tow confident: Toyota was the first maker of full-size trucks that complied with the J2807 standards established by the Society of Automotive Engineers. Our customers hold us to a very high standard, and we want to do the same for ourselves.

Massive ring gear

To handle the torque of Tundra’s available 5.7L V8, our engineers fitted the rear differential with a massive 10.5-inch ring gear. This allows use of an aggressive 4.30 rear axle ratio to help amplify and transfer the 401 lb.-ft. of torque the 5.7L V8 produces to the ground.

Towing capability

How do you tow over 10,000 lbs.? 8 With staggered, outboard-mounted shocks for better torsional rigidity, a heavy-duty C channel TripleTech™ frame like what’s found on a dump truck, plus an available trailer hitch included with the 5.7L V8 that utilizes 12 bolts secured to either frame rail. Bring it on.

Class-leading front brakes

Power is nothing without control. Tundra features class-leading 11 13.9-inch rotors with 4-piston calipers up front, and 13.6-inch rotors in the rear for impressive stopping power. We built it the way you would.

Auto Limited-Slip Differential

Auto LSD works like a traditional limited-slip differential—with a high-tech twist. Instead of controlling slip mechanically, Auto LSD applies brakes individually to wheels with no traction. This helps give you control and distributes power where it’s most effective. Best of all, because the system utilizes the brake system, there are no extra components that add to overall ownership costs.

View Specs

Active Traction Control

The added traction of 4WD is great—but with A-TRAC, it’s even better. A-TRAC is a 4WD traction control system that uses the 4-channel ABS system to control power flow to the front and rear wheels, all without cutting throttle input, to help restore traction no matter where your job site may be.

View Specs

Limited Double Cab shown in Barcelona Red Metallic with available TRD Off-Road Package and running boards

Trailer-Sway Control

Big trucks tow big toys so Tundra comes standard with Trailer Sway Control (TSC). 12 TSC works in two ways: by detecting trailer sway and applying brake pressure at individual wheels, and by controlling engine torque to help stabilize the trailer, and your precious boat.

View Specs

Limited Double Cab shown in Barcelona Red Metallic with available TRD Off-Road Package and running boards

Vehicle Stability Control

Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) 13 helps prevent front and rear wheel slip. If VSC detects a loss of traction, two things can happen to help correct the problem: first, engine output is reduced; then, brake force is applied to individual wheels as needed.

  15. Entune™ is a trademark of Toyota Motor Corporation. Always drive safely, obey traffic laws and focus on the road while driving. Services vary by phone/carrier. Functionality depends on many factors. Services subject to change. For enrollment and more details, see toyota.com/entune.
  16. Concentrating on the road should always be your first priority while driving. Do not use the hands-free phone system if it will distract you. The Bluetooth® word mark and logos are registered trademarks owned by Bluetooth SIG, Inc. and any use of such marks by Toyota is under license. A compatible Bluetooth®-enabled phone must first be paired. Phone performance depends on software, coverage and carrier.
  17. The backup camera does not provide a comprehensive view of the rear area of the vehicle. You should also look around outside your vehicle and use your mirrors to confirm rearward clearance. Cold weather will limit effectiveness and view may become cloudy.
  18. HomeLink® is a registered trademark of Johnson Controls, Inc.
  19. Brake Assist is designed to help the driver take full advantage of the benefits of ABS. It is not a substitute for safe driving practices. Braking effectiveness also depends on proper brake-system maintenance and tire and road conditions.
  20. Smart Stop Technology® operates only in the event of certain simultaneous brake and accelerator pedal applications. When engaged, the system will reduce power to help the brakes bring the vehicle to a stop. Factors including speed, road conditions and driver input can all impact stopping distance. Smart Stop Technology® is not a substitute for safe and attentive driving and does not guarantee instant stopping. Please see your Owner's Manual for further details.
  21. The Toyota Tire Pressure Monitor alerts the driver when tire pressure is critically low. For optimal tire wear and performance, tire pressure should be checked regularly with a gauge; do not rely solely on the monitor system. See your Owner's Manual for details.
  22. All the airbag (AB) systems are Supplemental Restraint Systems. All ABs (if installed) are designed to inflate only under certain conditions and in certain types of severe collisions: frontal and knee ABs typically inflate in frontal collisions; side and side curtain ABs in side collisions; Roll-Sensing Curtain ABs at a severe tilt degree, roll or lateral G-force. In all other accidents, the ABs will not inflate. To decrease the risk of injury from an inflating AB, always wear seatbelts, sit upright in the middle of the seat as far back as possible and do not lean against the door. Do not put objects in front of an AB or around the seatback. Do not use a rearward-facing child seat in any front passenger seat. The force of an inflating AB may cause serious injury or death. See your Owner's Manual for further information/warnings.
  23. Covers normal factory scheduled service for 2 years or 25,000 miles, whichever comes first. See Toyota dealer for details and exclusions. Valid only in the continental U.S. and Alaska.
  24. Does not include parts and fluids, except emergency fuel delivery.
  25. Be sure to obey traffic regulations and maintain awareness of road and traffic conditions at all times. Apps/services vary by phone/carrier; functionality depends on many factors. Select apps use large amounts of data; you are responsible for charges. Apps and services subject to change. See toyota.com/entune for details.
