How to Pair a Phone

Pairing your phone is the first step in connecting with your Toyota for hands-free calling and for audio streaming via Bluetooth®  wireless technology.

Pairing your phone is quick and easy: We've provided two options for you to choose from, depending on the type of phone you own.

Pair an iPhone® Using Bluetooth®*

Phone pairing instructions for iPhone® are provided below to get you connected to your new Toyota's multimedia system in no time.

For your safety, you can only pair a phone when the vehicle is stopped and in Park.

Note: "Press" refers to a physical button on your phone or the multimedia system faceplate. "Touch" refers to a button, command or menu drawn on the display touch-screen.

Pairing an iPhone® Using Bluetooth®

  1. Press MENU on the faceplate
  2. Touch Settings
  3. Touch Bluetooth
    1. If no Bluetooth® devices have been registered with this vehicle, a prompt will appear stating: “There are no Bluetooth devices registered. Would you like to add one now?” Touch Yes.
    2. If a Bluetooth® device has been registered with this vehicle, touch Add to register a new Bluetooth® device

TIP: Ensure the Bluetooth® on your smartphone is on and allows the device to be searched for pairing

  1. A message will direct you to start the pairing process on your phone. From your iPhone®, touch Settings.
  2. Touch Bluetooth on your iPhone®
  3. Search for the device name displayed on the Toyota multimedia system screen (e.g., Toyota Prius) with the screen of your iPhone®. Touch this device name on your iPhone®. You may be requested to confirm that you would like to pair the vehicle with your iPhone®. Touch Pair on your iPhone® to confirm.
  4. To set up text messaging, you will need to access your iPhone®. From your iPhone®, touch the “i” icon next to the connected Toyota multimedia system name (e.g., Toyota Prius) from your list of Bluetooth® devices.
  5. From your iPhone®, turn on Show Notifications
  6. A confirmation will appear on your Toyota vehicle’s screen that your phone has been paired
  7. If you believe you have set up text messaging by turning on Show Notifications on your iPhone®, but text messages do not display on your vehicle’s touch-screen, press MENU on the vehicle’s multimedia system faceplate
  8. Touch Phone
  9. Touch the envelope icon
  10. A prompt will appear stating: “Would you like to set up messaging?” Touch Yes.
  11. The Toyota multimedia system should detect that you have turned on Show Notifications on your iPhone® and automatically turn on text messaging

Pair an Android Phone Using Bluetooth®*

Phone pairing instructions for Android phones are provided below to get you connected to your new Toyota's multimedia system in no time.

For your safety, you can only pair a phone when the vehicle is stopped and in Park.

Note: "Press" refers to a physical button on your phone or the multimedia system faceplate. "Touch" refers to a button, command or menu drawn on the display touch-screen.

Pairing an Android Phone Using Bluetooth®

  1. Press MENU on the faceplate
  2. Touch Settings
  3. Touch Bluetooth
    1. If no Bluetooth® devices have been registered with this vehicle, a prompt will appear stating: “There are no Bluetooth devices registered. Would you like to add one now?” Touch Yes.
    2. If a Bluetooth® device has been registered with this vehicle, touch Add to register a new Bluetooth® device

TIP: Ensure the Bluetooth® on your smartphone is on and allows the device to be searched for pairing

  1. A message will direct you to start the pairing process on your phone. From your Android phone, touch Settings.
  2. Access Bluetooth from your Settings menu (hint: it may be under Connections) and make sure Bluetooth® is turned on and visible or discoverable to find nearby devices
  3. Search for the device name displayed on the Toyota multimedia system screen (e.g., Toyota Prius) with the screen of your Android phone. Touch this device name on your Android phone. You may be requested to confirm that you would like to pair the vehicle with your Android phone. Touch OK on your Android phone to confirm.
  4. A prompt will appear on your Android phone asking permission to connect to your messages. Touch Yes to confirm that you would like incoming text messages to display on your vehicle’s touch-screen.
  5. An additional prompt will appear on your Android phone asking permission to access your contacts and call history. Touch Yes if you would like for your contacts and call history to automatically be transferred to your Toyota’s multimedia system.
  6. A confirmation will appear on your Toyota vehicle’s screen that your phone has been paired.

Pair a Non-iPhone/Non-Android Phone Using Bluetooth®*

Phone pairing instructions are provided below to get you connected to your new Toyota's multimedia system in no time.

For your safety, you can only pair a phone when the vehicle is stopped and in Park.

Note: "Press" refers to a physical button on your phone or the multimedia system faceplate. "Touch" refers to a button, command or menu drawn on the display touch-screen.

Pairing a Phone Using Bluetooth®*

  1. Press MENU on the faceplate
  2. Touch Settings
  3. Touch Bluetooth®
    1. If no Bluetooth® devices have been registered with this vehicle, a prompt will appear stating: “There are no Bluetooth devices registered. Would you like to add one now?” Touch Yes.
    2. If a Bluetooth® device has been registered with this vehicle, touch Add to register a new Bluetooth® device

TIP: Ensure the Bluetooth® on your smartphone is on and allows the device to be searched for pairing

  1. A message will direct you to start the pairing process on your phone. Search for the device name displayed on the Toyota multimedia system screen with the screen of your Bluetooth® device. For details about operating the Bluetooth® device, see the manual that comes with it.
  2. Register the Bluetooth® device using your Bluetooth® device. A PIN code is not required for SSP (Secure Simple Pairing)-compatible Bluetooth® devices. Depending on the type of Bluetooth® device being connected, a message confirming registration may be displayed on the Bluetooth® device's screen.
  3. Respond and operate the Bluetooth® device according to the confirmation message
  4. A confirmation will appear on your Toyota vehicle’s screen that your phone has been paired

Compatible Phones

Compatible Phones

If your phone is Bluetooth®-compatible, you can make hands-free phone calls using voice recognition or simply by using the touch-screen. To see if your phone has Bluetooth®, please refer to your phone’s Owner’s Manual. To see if your smartphone is compatible with Entuneclick here.

Hands-Free Calling by Dial

Hands-Free Calling

Entune Premium JBL® Audio with 11.6-in. HD Multimedia Display features hands-free calling, which allows you to send and receive phone calls without using your handset. In addition, Toyota's voice recognition system allows you to make those calls by pressing a button on the steering wheel, so you can keep your eyes on the road. See your Owner's Manual for a complete list of voice commands.

Before using hands-free calling, the phone must be paired. If it is not, please go to Pair a Phone to find out how to connect to Bluetooth® services or download the Bluetooth® Pairing Guide.

Make a Hands-Free Call by Dial

(Keypad input not available when vehicle is in motion)

  1. Press MENU on the faceplate
  2. Touch Phone
  3. Touch DIAL PAD
  4. Touch the desired keys to input the phone
  5. Touch the green phone icon to make the call

Make a Call by Contacts

  1. Press MENU on the faceplate
  2. Touch Phone
  3. Touch Contacts
  4. Touch the desired contact
  5. Touch the desired number from the list (up to four phone numbers per contact shown)

Make a Call by Favorites

  1. Press MENU on the faceplate
  2. Touch Phone
  3. Touch Favorites
  4. Touch the desired contact to call
  5. Touch the desired number from the list (up to four phone numbers per contact shown)

Make a Call by History

  1. Press MENU on the faceplate
  2. Touch Phone
  3. Touch Call History
  4. Touch the green phone icon next to the desired phone number or contact to make the call

Whenever you are talking on a hands-free call, a screen will be displayed with call information on the left and call options on the right.

Mute Call

  1. Touch Mute on the screen to mute your voice. When on Mute, the indicator light will turn on.
  2. Touch Mute again to unmute call. Indicator light will turn off.

Transfer to Phone

  1. Touch Handset Mode on the screen to change from hands-free to mobile phone call. When in Handset Mode, the indicator light will turn on.
  2. Touch Handset Mode to change back from mobile phone call to hands-free call. When on hands-free call, indicator light next to Handset Mode will turn off.

Hands-Free Calling/Voice Recognition

  1. Press the  button on the steering wheel
  2. Say: "Call" or "Dial" (number); e.g., "Call 212-555-1212"
    1. Or say “Go Back” to try again
  3. Phone will dial and play call through speakers

Hands-Free Calling From Contacts

  1. Press the  button on the steering wheel
  2. Say: "Call" or "Dial" (name); e.g., "Call David Smith" (names are contacts found in your phone book that can be downloaded when pairing your mobile phone)
  3. If the system recognizes more than one potential match, or if there is more than one phone number for your desired name, a list of choices with corresponding numbers will appear on the touch-screen
  4. The voice prompt will ask you to choose a number selection to call
    1. Or say “Go Back” to try again
  5. Phone will dial and play call through speakers


Using the Touch-Screen

Receiving a Call

Note: "Press" refers to a physical button on your phone or the multimedia system faceplate. "Touch" refers to a button, command or menu drawn on the display touch-screen.

When a call is received, the screen will display information from the incoming caller

  1. Touch the green phone icon or press the phone off-hook button on the steering wheel to accept and talk on the phone
  2. Touch the red phone hang-up icon or press the phone hang-up button on the steering wheel to refuse the call

End Call

Note: "Press" refers to a physical button on your phone or the multimedia system faceplate. "Touch" refers to a button, command or menu drawn on the display touch-screen.

  1. Touch the red phone hang-up icon or the phone hang-up button on the steering wheel to hang up the phone

Mute Call

Note: "Press" refers to a physical button on your phone or the multimedia system faceplate. "Touch" refers to a button, command or menu drawn on the display touch-screen.

  1. Touch Mute on the screen to mute your voice. When on Mute, the indicator light will turn on.
  2. Touch Mute again to unmute call. Indicator light will turn off.

Importing Contacts

FOR PBAP-COMPATIBLE Bluetooth® PHONES

  1. Press MENU on the faceplate
  2. Touch Phone
  3. Touch Settings

  5. Touch Automatic Transfer

Editing Contacts

FOR PBAP-COMPATIBLE Bluetooth® PHONES

  1. Touch SETUP button on the faceplate
  2. Touch Phone
  3. Touch Contact/Call History
  4. Touch Update Contacts From Phone
    1. The phone's contact data and history are automatically transferred and updated


Pairing and Compatibility FAQs

How many phone contacts can I store in my multimedia system?

The total number of contacts is a maximum of 2,500 with a maximum of four phone numbers per contact.

Which Bluetooth®-enabled phones are compatible with Entune?

Entune will work with most Android and iPhone® models. For information on how to pair your phone via Bluetooth® and a complete list of compatible phones for the Entune® App Suite, please visit www.toyota.com/connect

If my Bluetooth®-enabled phone is not currently listed, when will it be tested?

Toyota is currently conducting an ongoing test schedule of new phone models as they become available. Many phones have been tested, and many will never be tested. For a complete list of compatible phones for the Entune® App Suite, please visit www.toyota.com/connect

What is hands-free calling?

Your multimedia system features hands-free calling, which allows you to send and receive phone calls without using your handset. In addition, Toyota's Voice Recognition System allows you to make those calls by pressing a button on the steering wheel, so you can keep your eyes on the road.
