Stop the vehicle immediately. Continuing to drive the vehicle may be dangerous.

This warning indicates a possible problem in the brake system. Immediately stop the vehicle in a safe place and contact your Toyota dealer.

  • Low brake fluid
  • Malfunction in the brake system


This light also comes on when the parking brake is not released. If the light turns off after the parking brake is fully released the system is operating normally.

*When there is a possible problem that could affect braking performance, the warning light will come on and a buzzer will sound.

Parking brake engaged warning buzzer:
If the vehicle reaches a speed of 3 mph (5 km/h), the master warning light flashes and a buzzer sounds to indicate that the parking brake is still engaged.

Once the cruise control has been activated and the desired speed has been selected by pressing the lever down, the SET indicator will come on.

Vehicles without a Smart Key system: After the engine switch has been turned to the START position, the READY indicator changes should change from a flashing light to a solid light and a beep sound, to indicate that the hybrid system is starting normally.

Vehicles with a Smart Key system: After the POWER switch has been depressed, the READY indicator changes should change from a flashing light to a solid light and a beep sound, to indicate that the hybrid system is starting normally.

The vehicle will not move when the READY indicator is off.

The vehicle can move when the READY indicator is on even if the engine is stopped. (The engine starts or stops automatically in accordance with the state of the vehicle.)

Prius C-2012-{{imageAltName}}Eco drive mode indicator

When Eco drive mode is turned on, the ECO MODE indicator will come on. Pressing the ECO MODE switch again turns Eco drive mode off.

Suitable for enhancing the fuel economy. This mode minimizes the use of the air conditioning system by regulating the accelerator pedal depression level.

When EV drive mode is turned on, the EV drive mode indicator will come on. Pressing the switch when in EV drive mode will return the vehicle to normal driving (using the gasoline engine and electric motor [traction motor]).

The fog lights secure excellent visibility in difficult driving conditions, such as in rain and fog.

Indicates that the Fog Lights are turned on.

Remaining fuel is low.
When the remaining fuel is approximately 1.2 gal.(4.7 L, 1.0 Imp. gal.) or less, a buzzer sounds and the lowest segment of the fuel gauge flashes.

Correction procedure: Refuel the vehicle.

  • The electronic throttle control system.


If the malfunction indicator lamp comes on while driving

The malfunction indicator lamp will come on if the fuel tank cap becomes loose. If the fuel tank cap is loose, tighten it securely. The malfunction indicator lamp will go off after several trips.

If the malfunction indicator lamp does not go off even after several trips, contact your Toyota dealer as soon as possible.

Prius C-2012-{{imageAltName}}Master warning light

A buzzer sounds and the warning light comes on and flashes to indicate that the master warning system has detected a malfunction.

The master warning light also comes on or flashes in order to indicate that a message is currently being displayed on the multi-information display. Consult your Owner’s Manual for more details if this light is illuminated in conjunction with other warning indicators on your multi-information display.

Follow the correction procedures. After taking the specified steps to correct the suspected problem, check that the warning light goes off.

Warns the driver and front passenger to fasten their seat belt.

Correction procedure: Fasten the seat belt. If the front passenger’s seat is occupied, the front passenger’s seatbelt also needs to be fastened to make the reminder light (warning buzzer) go off.

*Driver‘s and front passenger’s seat belt reminders:
The driver‘s and front passenger‘s seat belt buzzer sounds to alert the driver and front passenger that his or her seat belt is not fastened. Once the engine switch is turned to the ON or START position (vehicles without a Smart Key system) or the POWER switch is turned to ON mode (vehicles with a Smart Key system), the buzzer sounds for 6 seconds. If the vehicle reaches a speed of 12 mph (20 km/h), the buzzer sounds once. If the seat belt is still unfastened after 30 seconds, the buzzer will sound intermittently for 10 seconds. Then, if the seat belt is still unfastened, the buzzer will sound in a different tone for 20 more seconds.

Vehicles without a Smart Key system

The indicator light flashes after the key has been removed from the engine switch to indicate that the system is operating. The indicator light stops flashing after the registered key has been inserted into the engine switch to indicate that the system has been canceled.

Vehicles with a Smart Key system

The indicator light flashes after the POWER switch has been turned off to indicate that the system is operating. The indicator light stops flashing after the POWER switch has been turned to ACCESSORY or ON mode to indicate that the system has been canceled.

Indicates that the airbag is on or off.

Your vehicle is equipped with a front passenger occupant classification system. This system detects the conditions of the front passenger seat and activates or deactivates the devices for the front passenger. The AIR BAG OFF or AIR BAG ON light illuminates to keep the driver/front passenger advised of the system status. Consult your Owner’s Manual for more details.

Prius C-2012-{{imageAltName}}SRS warning light

Prius C-2012-{{imageAltName}}Tire pressure warning light (U.S.A.)

Follow the correction procedures. After taking the specified steps to correct the suspected problem, check that the warning light goes off.

When the light comes on: Low tire inflation pressure

The tire pressure warning light may come on due to natural causes such as natural air leaks and tire inflation pressure changes caused by temperature. In this case, adjusting the tire inflation pressure will turn off the warning light (after a few minutes). This light will also illuminate when your vehicle has a flat tire.

Correction procedure:  Adjust the tire inflation pressure to the specified level. The light will turn off after a few minutes. In case the light does not turn off, even if tire inflation pressure is adjusted, have the system checked by your Toyota dealer.

When the light comes on after blinking for 1 minute: Malfunction in the tire pressure warning system.

Correction procedure: Have the system checked by your Toyota dealer.

Prius C-2012-{{imageAltName}}Turn signal indicator

Indicates that the turn signal is on.

If the indicator flashes faster than usual, check that a light bulb in the front or rear turn signal lights has not burned out.

Should a safety system light such as the ABS and SRS airbag warning lights not come on when you start the hybrid system, this could mean that these systems are not available to help protect you in an accident, which could result in death or serious injury. Have the vehicle inspected by your Toyota dealer immediately if this occurs.

Yellow icons indicate an item of importance (such as low fuel), but are not necessarily a warning.
