Racing comes down to seconds. Sometimes, even inches. In Formula DRIFT (FD), you almost have to be perfect to win.

This season has been no different for Toyota and Papadakis Racing driver Frederic Aasbø, who looks to gain ground on the top position in the FD standings this weekend at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas. With just two events remaining in the 2018 season, Aasbø sits 30 points away from the points lead in second place.

"There’s nothing better than a close battle to the finish line and this championship is going to come down to the wire,” said Aasbø.

Heading into the weekend, Aasbø is coming off his second victory of the 2018 season after winning the series inaugural event at Gateway Motorsports Park near St. Louis, Missouri last month.

“It’s always a good feeling coming off a win, but even though it’s only been a month since St. Louis, it honestly seems like a really long time ago,” he said. “Looking ahead to Texas, I’m feeling ready. With the competition as close as it is, it’s going to come down to giving it everything I’ve got.”

The Corolla Hatchback driver has four podiums in six events this season and is making a strong run at a second championship. Aasbø has finished top-two in the standings in four-consecutive seasons including a championship in 2015 and runner-up placements in 2014, 2016 and 2017.

The 2015 FD champion has one victory at Texas Motor Speedway, where he claimed the top spot in  2014.

“I think people underestimate how technical the Dallas track really is: getting a good line and committing to every move is critical,” said Aasbø.

Formula D’s ‘Round 7: Showdown’ at Texas Motor Speedway will be live streamed on ToyotaRacing.com.
