Mother Nature Wins in Daytona

July 07, 2019, The NASCAR Cup Series race was pushed to Sunday afternoon after rain postponed the Saturday evening event. Mother Nature Wins in Daytona
It was a battle against Mother Nature all weekend at Daytona International Speedway. The NASCAR Cup Series race was pushed to Sunday afternoon after rain postponed the Saturday evening event. Rain and lightning would also shorten the event 33-laps short of the scheduled distance. Matt DiBenedetto was the top finishing Toyota with an eighth-place finish at the World Center for Racing.
DiBenedetto nearly was caught in the “big one,” but skillfully navigated his way through the mess. “I couldn’t see anything in the crash other than crap everywhere, so I listened to Doug (Campbell, spotter) 100%. I went wherever he told me. He said go low and I just slammed it down on the apron and hoped no one was underneath me. There wasn’t and we avoided it somehow, so Doug gets credit for that one.”

Kyle Busch finished 14th, Martin Truex Jr. 22nd, Erik Jones 23rd, Denny Hamlin 26th and Parker Kligerman in the 31st spot.
