2020 NASCAR Cup Series: Early Season Rewind

Denny Hamlin celebrates his third Daytona 500 win.2020 NASCAR Cup Series: Early Season Rewind
As we look to restart the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series season, let’s reflect on the first four races of the year.

Denny Hamlin’s season started with his second consecutive Daytona 500 victory – his third in the “Great American Race” in the past five seasons, cementing his status as one of the top restrictor-plate drivers. The February win clinched a spot in the NASCAR Playoffs for Hamlin, who added a top 10 finish at California’s Auto Club Speedway and is 11th in the point standings after the first four races of the year.

Kyle Busch looks on as he prepares to get in his Camry at Phoenix Raceway.

Kyle Busch has showed strength at all four events to start the year. He began the season by leading 14 laps at the Daytona 500 before falling out with a mechanical issue. Busch bounced back the next week, adding a pole position at his home track – Las Vegas Motor Speedway – and followed it up with top-three finishes at both Auto Club Speedway and Phoenix Raceway.

Martin Truex Jr. shares a laugh with TRD’s David Wilson and his new crew chief, James Small.
Martin Truex Jr. has also shown promise this year with his new crew chief, James Small, but luck has not been on his side. Truex, who is still looking for his first top 10 finish of the season, has consistently ran up front keeping him within the Playoffs cutoff currently.
Erik Jones smiles with his Busch Clash trophy.
Erik Jones started the year off with a bang – winning the crash-filled non-points Busch Clash at Daytona. Since then, he has added a top 10 result at Auto Club Speedway and sits just inside the top 20 in the point standings. Jones is excited about the next track on the schedule – Darlington Raceway – as he scored his second career win there last season.
Christopher Bell gets ready for qualifying.
Daniel Suárez and Christopher Bell have each  experienced a challenging start to the 2020 season and are both looking to rebound as the season restarts. Suárez is coming off his best finish with Gaunt Brothers Racing at Phoenix Raceway as the team begins a full-time effort for the first time. Bell has been stung by on-track incidents and is looking forward to continuing his Rookie of the Year charge at Darlington Raceway.
Daniel Suaréz prepares for practice at Phoenix Raceway.
The NASCAR Cup Series returns on May 17 at Darlington Raceway. The race will be shown at 3:30pmEDT on FOX.
