The legendary Darlington Raceway not only hosts the iconic Southern 500 Labor Day race this season, but it is also the kickoff to the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs. Toyota has three drivers amongst the Playoff contenders this year as the manufacturer goes for its fourth driver title in the past six seasons.

Denny Hamlin has had another incredible season and starts the Playoffs seeded in the second position. Entering NASCAR’s postseason, Hamlin has already matched his 2019 victory count of six, including his third Daytona 500 and a victory in the Toyota 500 at Darlington Raceway in NASCAR’s return to action in May due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Hamlin’s 47 Playoff points are the most that the 39-year-old driver has ever entered the Playoffs with as he strives for his first career Cup Series title.

Hamlin’s Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Martin Truex Jr. is also on a hot streak as he prepares for his sixth-straight season competing in the NASCAR Playoffs. Truex has driven to eight consecutive top-five finishes, including a streak of five straight third-place runs, leading into the Playoffs. The 2017 Cup Series Champion Truex clinched his spot in the Playoffs with his win at Martinsville Speedway earlier this year and is the sixth seed.

The final Toyota driver in the field is the reigning champion, Kyle Busch. The 2015 and 2019 Cup Series champion is still looking for his first victory of the season but has had a solid year with top-10 finishes in half of his starts in 2020. Busch won Toyota’s first ever race at Darlington Raceway in 2008 and is looking to add another Southern 500 crown to his stacked record book.

The 10-race NASCAR Playoffs kicks off at Darlington Raceway on Sunday evening with the round of 16 and consists of races at Darlington, Richmond Raceway and Bristol Motor Speedway.
