Toyota had another solid race at the annual dirt race on the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series tour with three drivers in the top-six finishers.

First-time competitor Mike Marlar, the 2018 World of Outlaws Late Models champion, ran a solid race and ranked amongst the top-10 most of the night. Marlar ended the night as the highest-finishing Toyota driver in fourth.

“It was awesome. Every guy when he starts racing dreams to get to run a NASCAR race and to have my first one go this well is unbelievable.” said Marlar. “It was just an awesome race.”
Kyle Busch Racing teammates Todd Gilliland and Christian Eckes followed Marlar to the line in fifth and sixth. Gilliland ran second for most of the race but was at a disadvantage during the races many restarts due to restarting from the bottom groove. After a late-race scramble, Gilliland was scored in the fifth position.

“Definitely a solid day, but solid days don’t cut it at this point,” said Gilliland. “Today, I felt like we had a truck that could compete for the win; it was just about getting in the right lane. All the little details that I should have been a little better at. It’s all a learning curve. I’m really happy with the race we ran. I just wish we could have finished it off better because we ran better than fifth.”

One race remains before NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series playoffs begin as the field will be set following next week’s race at Michigan International Speedway. Toyota drivers Austin Hill and Tyler Ankrum have officially clinched playoff positions.
