Bell, Jones Record Best iRacing Finishes at the Virtual Dover International Speedway

Toyota had another strong iRacing event this afternoon at Dover International Speedway with four Camrys in the top six finishers with Christopher Bell (second) and Erik Jones (fourth) recording best-ever finishes in the six event ProInvitational Series.
May 03, 2020, Erik Jones finished fourth, his best finish in the ProInvitational Series.

“We finally had a good run in the iRacing Series,” said Bell after the race. “I guess really my first good run in the Cup Series, whether that’s iRacing or real life. Ran second to Willy (William Bryon) today. Willy’s definitely got the iRacing deal figured out. He’s the guy to beat, week-in and week-out. At the end of the race, I was actually pretty competitive. We barely missed the invert, and qualified 11th. With pit strategy, I was 11th to 15th all day. Didn’t really have the chance to see how we could compare to William or the fast guys really till right there at the end. Once I got up front, I was pretty competitive with them. It would have been nice to get a long green flag run when I was up front, but that’s all right. To come home second was a good day. Hopefully, it’s a turning point and we are able to keep it going.”

Denny Hamlin ran the fastest lap in qualifying, but due to the top 10 being inverted began the race in the 10th position. Timmy Hill also had a strong qualifying effort, and took the lead early. The early portion of the race was dominated by cautions, but several Toyotas were strong throughout.

A late caution brought the field together and with pit strategy put Hill back in the front with two tires. However, he was unable to hold off eventual winner William Bryon or Bell and came home third. Hamlin bounced back from being involved in a late-race caution to finish sixth.

May 03, 2020, Timmy Hill led 32 laps at Dover International Speedway.

“Pretty solid race for us,” said Jones. “Our best run so far in the iRacing Series. It was awesome to get a good finish and get DeWalt up front – get them a good top-five with the new DeWalt Atomic car. It looked really good. I had fun; I think we just needed some longer runs at the end to be able to get up there and have a shot with those guys. We weren’t as quite as fast on the first five to ten laps as they were, but we could really run them down after. I had fun. A solid run for us. I had a chance to get up there and contend for a win, which was pretty cool.”

The ProInvitational Series concludes next Saturday as NASCAR makes a return to the virtual North Wilkesboro Speedway. It will be shown at 3pm ET on FOX.
