Exciting Last Lap Pass Gives Hailie Deegan Historic Win in Season Opener

2019 Hailie DeeganExciting Last Lap Pass Gives Hailie Deegan Historic Win in Season Opener
Hailie Deegan opened her 2019 season the best way possible, with a win in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway Dirt Track.
The win was an historic one. In addition to becoming the first female to win in the series, the 17-year-old from Temecula, California, also became the first female to lead the championship point standings in a NASCAR national or regional series.

Deegan earlier this week called this race the biggest of her season and her “Daytona 500” because of her background in dirt racing and finishing runner-up in the event a year ago.

Deegan would not accept second place this time.
2019 Hailie Deegan win
The win did not come easy as a pedal extension issue in the qualifying races forced her to start ninth. She would not be denied and methodically worked her way up to the front of the pack. On the final lap, Deegan made an inside pass with her No. 19 Camry to pass Jagger Jones in Turn 2 for her second career victory.
"In the end we wouldn't have caught him if it weren't for the lapped cars," Deegan said. "And they got in his way. If I was him, I'd be mad. Really mad. But some people’s losses are other people’s wins and we ended up getting it done. I knew what we had to do to win. I knew it was going to come down to the last lap again and we made it happen."

Deegan now has two NASCAR K&N Pro Series West wins  six top-five finishes, 13 top-10 finishes and two poles. She is well on her way to competing for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West championship.
