Jerome has always dreamt of running in the Olympic Games and for Athens 2004, he became a qualifier in the men’s 100m. Although he missed the cut, that didn’t mean his dream would end there. During the same year, the U.S. Paralympic Committee approached him to work as a guide for long jumper Lex Gillette. Together, they would go on to win the silver medal in the long jump.
During Athens 2004, Jerome saw that one of the running guides was injured and immediately stepped in to help. Without having any experience running in tandem, he ran the 100m, 200m and 400m events with his partner. Together, they not only won, but also set American records in each event! It was then Jerome knew that competing as a team and helping other athletes achieve their goals was where he would find success. And now, when he’s not on the field training, Jerome gives his all to raise awareness for disabled athletes and their team of guides.
“The style fits my personality perfectly. I like the muscle car body style; I like the sporty look of it.”
"Our teamwork doesn’t just stop on the track. It extends to the gym, getting to meets, shopping, charity events, coaching meetings and so on."
