Cool Globes

Cool Globes was established to raise awareness of global warning and inspire individuals and community leaders to embrace solutions and take action. This includes the innovative public art project, “Cool Globes: Hot Ideas for a Cooler Planet.” Toyota acted as underwriting sponsor of the Chicago exhibit’s Opening Gala in 2007. In 2008, we expanded this partnership as presenting sponsor of the touring exhibits in Washington D.C, San Francisco, San Diego, and Los Angeles.

The Washington D.C. globes were displayed at the United States Botanic Garden, National Arboretum, National Cathedral, and Reagan National Airport. In addition, Miniature Cool Globes designed or autographed by a diverse group of celebrities and elected officials were on display at the Kennedy Center.

In San Francisco, 35 Cool Globes were displayed along the Crissy Field Promenade and at Giants Stadium. The San Diego exhibit was on display at Balboa Park. In the spring of 2009, the globes were displayed at the Los Angeles Exposition Park.

Each globe is five feet in diameter, seven-and-one-half feet tall and weighs 2,300 pounds. Local, national, and international artists, as well as school children, design the globes using a variety of materials. Visit the Globes Gallery to view the globes and learn more about how they are made.
