Toyota Driving Expectations

In the United States, the crash rate per mile driven for 16-19 year-olds is four times that of older drivers, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

That’s why, in 2004, we created Toyota Driving Expectations, a free program for teen drivers and their parents.

Toyota Driving Expectations is a free program for teens and their parents.

The goal of Toyota Driving Expectations is to proactively take America's driving youth through a safe driving experience. The dynamic course does more than inform, it takes teens the next step beyond driver's education and introduces "real world" obstacles, conditions and distractions in a safe and controlled driving environment.

Another unique feature of the program is the inclusion of the parents, which allows them to gain valuable insight into the challenges facing teen drivers today.

Building upon the success of the behind-the-wheel experience, Toyota Driving Expectations has recently expanded our community outreach by connecting with teens in high schools and select Toyota dealerships. Toyota partners with local high schools to offer “The Road Ahead,” a free interactive and motivational program that engages students with videos, live presentations and a hands-on driving simulator. Participating Toyota dealerships also offer free Teen Driver Safety Clinics, in a non-sales environment, to teens and parents to learn about vehicle dynamics and safety features, defensive driving best practices, distracted driving dangers and the importance of regular maintenance.
