  • What is Entune®?
    The available Entune® 7 system is a collection of popular mobile applications and data services integrated with select Toyota vehicles. Entune® 7 delivers access to apps and services via most smartphones and some feature phones. Once the phone is connected to the vehicle using Bluetooth® 7 technology or a USB cable,11 Entune®'s features are operated using the vehicle's controls or, for some services, voice recognition. Entune® 7 is scheduled to have mobile apps for Bing, iHeartRadio, MovieTickets.com, OpenTable®, and Pandora®. The data services of Entune® include fuel prices, sports scores, stocks, traffic, and weather.
  • How does Entune® work?
    Entune® 7 is designed to work simply and intuitively. Using the voice recognition, steering wheel controls or in-vehicle touchscreen, you can access a variety of information and entertainment applications via a Bluetooth® 8 connection to your mobile phone. Once the mobile phone is paired via Bluetooth® 8, you never have to touch the handset again.
  • Is Entune® supported outside the United States?
    Entune® functions anywhere within the continental United States, but not in Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Mexico, or Canada. Vehicles built in the US, but driven into or sold in these regions, do not support Entune®.
  • Is Entune® a fee-based service?
    All new Entune® -equipped Toyota vehicles come with complimentary access to Entune® apps and data services for three years, active from the point of sale. After three years of complimentary access, Entune® users can elect to continue their access to Entune® apps and/or data services for a monthly access fee:
    • For Display Audio w/Navigation/Entune® owners and Premium HDD Navigation w/Entune® owners, access to Entune® apps is estimated at $5/month*
    • For Display Audio w/Navigation/Entune® owners, access to Entune® data services is estimated at $5/month*
    • For Display Navigation/Entune® owners, access to Entune® apps is estimated at $5/month*

    For Premium HDD Navigation with Entune® owners, the SiriusXM Radio12 data services package (NavTraffic, NavWeather, Travel Link (Fuel and Sports & Stocks)) is available from SiriusXM Radio12 for $8.99/monthˆ.

  • With the new Toyota Entune® 7 system, Toyota works with several service providers. What customer information or data is shared with service providers?
    Toyota does not send personally identifiable information to the Entune® service providers, we do not transmit the vehicle identification number (VIN) or the customer name. Many of the service providers utilize GPS data in order to support the functionality of their respective products. In order for a customer to use some of the Entune® services, he or she must first create a customer account with the respective service providers and access to this account via Entune® is achieved using an encrypted key versus transmitting customer log in credentials.

    In the future, on certain vehicles, the Entune® Traffic service will transmit anonymously (i.e. no personally identifiable information is included) the vehicle's heading, GPS location, and speed to the traffic service provider to enhance traffic information. Again, this data does not disclose the VIN, customer name, address, or any other personally identifiable information.
  • Toyota has had Telematics in place for some time, like Safety Connect® and Lexus Enform®. Can you tell us what customer information and data is shared with other companies?
    Customer information is only available to business partners to facilitate usage of the Toyota and Lexus Telematics services. With Safety Connect® and Lexus Enform®, we never know the customer's location unless the customer uses the services. For example, if an airbag deploys and the Safety Connect® hardware is turned on, the vehicle sends its location to the emergency call center. Another example is if the customer presses the SOS button and requests medical help; the vehicle automatically sends its location to the emergency call center. Toyota does not track a vehicle unless the specific service of "stolen vehicle location" is turned on, and this requires the customer to file a stolen vehicle police report. Upon receipt of a valid police report, we will track and provide the vehicle location only to the police. When the customer's subscription expires, we will remotely turn off the Telematics hardware after we have notified the customer. Once the Safety Connect® hardware is turned off, it will not function at all (i.e., it will not send any data or connect to the cellular network) until it is reactivated. Toyota cannot remotely reactivate the hardware; this action must be initiated by the customer.
  • Toyota has partnered with INRIX® for traffic in one of the applications of Toyota Entune®. We understand that INRIX® uses vehicle GPS data in conjunction with the Entune® service for their traffic services. What data is shared as part of this feature?
    In the future on certain vehicles, the Entune® Traffic service will transmit anonymously, the vehicle’s heading, GPS location, and speed to INRIX® to enhance their nationwide traffic information service. Since the data is transmitted anonymously it does not contain or disclose the VIN, customer name or any other personally identifiable data. It is designed so that every time the vehicle is shut off or the Entune® App is disconnected, this data transmission ends. This data also cannot be associated to prior driving, which prevents creation of a driving history from any vehicle.
  • Recently OnStar® announced that they intend to sell their customer data What is Toyota's policy regarding the selling of customer personally identifiable data?
    Regarding Telematics services (Safety Connect®, Lexus Enform®, Toyota Entune®), Toyota does not sell customer personally identifiable data to any third party for their separate use. Customer data is only used to provide the specific services offered through the Toyota and Lexus Telematics products. Regarding any personally identifiable information received via www.toyota.com, www.Lexus.com or other consumer-based website owned and operated by Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc., please refer to the Privacy Statements on the applicable website.
  • How secure is the system? Is it vulnerable to hacking?
    The mobile app is secure, as it requires a connection back to Toyota servers. Anti-hacking measures beyond the app, such as on the handset, are outside of Toyota’s control.
    The security of the system is extremely important to us. We will not allow any apps to appear on the system that are not on the access control list. The system will not take/accept any apps that are not approved by Toyota’s access control list. The system also uses IP security used for the Web today.
  • What is the risk of catching a virus during downloading of the mobile application?
    In general, mobile phones are not targeted for viruses and malware the way personal computers are. Nevertheless, Toyota recommends downloading the Entune® app only from trusted sources to reduce any risk to the phone. Because Entune® is a closed system, there is no risk of a viral infection of the vehicle’s electronics.
  • Can parking valets or service technicians access my Entune® App Suite apps?
    Apps can only be accessed if you leave your registered and paired smartphone in the vehicle. Please remember to always unpair your smartphone and take your smartphone with you if you leave the vehicle.
  • When can I buy a vehicle equipped with Toyota Entune® and on which models?
    All 2012 or newer Toyotas will be offered with Entune® except Yaris, Matrix and FJ Cruiser. Venza, Highlander and Avalon will be offered with Entune® when they launch as 2013 model year vehicles.
  • How does the Toyota Entune® App Suite system update?
    The Entune® App Suite system is designed so that the mobile phone can wirelessly send some updates to the Entune® App Suite multi-media system “over the air” using Bluetooth®8 and cellular data. The Entune® App Suite app notifies customers when an over-the-air update is available. Other updates to the Entune® App Suite system may require a direct update using a USB drive (jump drive).

Safety Connect® is dependent upon the telematics device being in operative condition, cellular connection availability and satellite signal reception. All Prius Plug-in Hybrid Advanced models come with a three-year complimentary trial account, which begins on the date the vehicle is purchased by the customer.   18. Maximum operation duration of this system is ten minutes. System may not operate if the hybrid battery is under load or if the battery charge is low. While plugged in, this system operates using power from grid. See your Owner's Manual for further information. By activating the Remote Climate feature, your vehicle’s accessory power will be powered on and any last known settings - for example air conditioning, radio and windshield wipers - will resume.
