A 4Runner driving on uneven terrain.

Performance

  • The 4Runner TRD Pro comes standard with skid plates to protect its underbelly.
  • Get larger ground clearance with the 4Runner for optimal off-roading without tearing up your SUV.

Some would say these SUVs are just built different. How else would they be able to traverse mountains and boulders with ease?

Off-Roading Features

Take on tough terrain with the 4Runner TRD Off-Road, TRD Off-Road Premium, and TRD Pro models, which come equipped with Multi-Terrain Select (MTS) and Crawl Control (CRAWL). The only Grand Cherokee models that have the comparable standard Selec-Terrain® System are the 2022 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk and Summit Reserve.

When you're going over bumpy trails, the 4Runner TRD Pro's underbelly is protected by standard skid plates covering the engine, front suspension, fuel tanks, and transfer case. You'll need the 2022 Trailhawk edition of the Grand Cherokee for front suspension, fuel tank, and transfer case skid plate protection.

You also get added ride height from the 4Runner TRD Off-Road, TRD Off-Road Premium, and TRD Pro's boosted ground clearance of 9.6 inches. All other 4Runner models have a 9.0-inch ground clearance. The Grand Cherokee Trailhawk, Summit, and Summit Reserve have 8.5 inches of ground clearance.

Exterior

  • Try out the funky new exterior colors with the 4Runner.
  • Get standard LED fog lights on the 4Runner.
  • For the adventurers out there, the 4Runner Trail Special Edition has a Yakima® LoadWarrior cargo basket.

Make a stellar first impression with the Toyota 4Runner's unique exterior offerings.

Rugged Style

Attract attention or blend in with your surroundings with the 4Runner's available color options. Get the bold Nautical Blue Metallic, Lime Rush or the out-of-this-world Lunar Rock. The Grand Cherokee color offerings are your more subdued standard options such as grays and reds.

All models of the 2022 4Runner also come standard with the added style and brightness of LED fog lights. They’re only available starting on the Grand Cherokee Limited.

If you're looking for a look that's also functional, both the Grand Cherokee and 4Runner come standard with roof rails. However, the 4Runner Trail Special Edition comes with a Yakima® LoadWarrior cargo basket for optimal storage of all your gear.

Reliability

  • While the Jeep Wave® program is longer term, the ToyotaCare plan includes more comprehensive maintenance services.
  • More customers would recommend the 2022 4Runner than the 2021 Grand Cherokee on KBB.com.
  • The 2022 4Runner scored higher in certain categories than the 2021 Grand Cherokee based on Kelley Blue Book® consumer reviews.

If your car isn't reliable, there's no fancy feature to cover it up. That's why all Toyotas are built on the platform of quality, durability, and reliability.

Awards and Maintenance

The ToyotaCare maintenance plan helps your 4Runner go the distance with factory-scheduled maintenance for two years or 25,000 miles, whichever comes first. This includes engine oil and filter changes, tire rotations, multi-point inspections, fluid level inspection and adjustments.

The newly introduced Jeep Wave® program covers your first three oil changes and tire rotations during the first 36 months of ownership.

While included maintenance is a nice touch, it's also important to factor in peer reviews. Customers are the harshest critics. They're also a good indicator whether a product is worth your time and money. Based on Kelley Blue Book® reviews from actual 2022 4Runner drivers, 90% of consumers would recommend this vehicle based on its above average ratings in categories like reliability, value, and quality. Only 80% of customers would recommend the 2021 Grand Cherokee, which received lower scores in the same areas. The 2022 Grand Cherokee does not yet have enough reviews on Kelley Blue Book® to be given a percentage.
