Both of these SUVs have plenty of impressive safety features to support peace of mind on the road, but the Toyota Sequoia has more standard active features—check out the section below for details.
The 2023 Toyota Sequoia and the Ford Expedition both come with lane departure warning systems that activate steering, collision warning systems with automatic braking, and front collision warning systems that activate at low speeds.
The Toyota Sequoia comes with the Toyota Safety Sense™ 2.5 (TSS 2.5) suite of active safety features, and the Ford Expedition comes with Ford’s Co-Pilot 360®. For stability on the road, the Toyota Sequoia comes standard with the Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) system. The Ford Expedition includes comparable features such as the Standard AdvanceTrac with RSC stability control system. Blind spot warning sensors and rear parking distribution sensors are standard on both vehicles.
As far as general and passive safety features are concerned, both vehicles come with airbags, but the Toyota Sequoia has more.
The 2023 Toyota Sequoia turns in some impressive EPA-estimated fuel economy numbers for a large SUV, and you can find the details of that comparison in the section below.
Even with better efficiency ratings, the Toyota Sequoia engine delivers 437 horsepower and 583 ft.-lb. of torque compared to the Ford Expedition’s 380 horsepower and 470 ft.-lb. of torque. Both base models come with two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive options, 10-speed transmissions, and power steering. The Sequoia TRD Pro comes standard with four-wheel drive. Every 2023 Toyota Sequoia has a 10-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission with intelligence (ECT-i), uphill/downhill shift logic, and sequential shift mode.
As far as steering goes, you get an adjustable, telescoping, and multifunction steering wheel in either SUV. But you can upgrade any Toyota Sequoia to include a heated steering wheel if desired—an option only available on the Ford Expedition XLT and higher trims for a significantly higher price.
Both the 2023 Toyota Sequoia and 2023 Ford Expedition come in nine trim levels and have an available remote liftgate and hatch release. You can opt for a hands free liftgate and hatch closing on the Toyota Sequoia, but that’s not an option for its competitor.
You can seat up to eight people in both SUVs—check out the interior design comparison below to find out more about options for seating. The Toyota Sequoia comes with options for a bench or captain’s chairs in the second row for more customization. You can also opt for other features, including a moonroof, when you purchase a 2023 Toyota Sequoia.
When it comes to power windows, the Toyota Sequoia wins again. Both vehicles do come with front and rear power windows, though, as well as driver and passenger one-touch power windows. However, only the Toyota Sequoia has one-touch power windows in the rear, too.
You can feel confident regarding warranty coverage when you buy either a 2023 Toyota Sequoia or a 2023 Ford Expedition. Both come with basic vehicle warranty coverage for 36 months or 36,000 miles, for example, and you can find out more about the Toyota Sequoia’s warranty plans in the bulleted list at the side of the page.
The Toyota Sequoia also comes with Roadside Assistance for 24 months with no mileage limit. The Ford Expedition offers assistance for up to 5 years, but that’s limited to 60,000 miles, making the Toyota Sequoia potentially more attractive to drivers that put a lot of time in on the road.
When it comes to maintenance, Toyota offers a better package. You get the no-cost 24-month, 25,000-mile ToyotaCare maintenance plan with the Toyota Sequoia. To get coverage with the Ford Expedition, you have to pay for one of Ford’s plans.
Both models do come with powertrain and anti-corrosion warranties for 60 months. The powertrain warranties are only up to 60,000 miles for either vehicle, but the anti-corrosion warranties are not limited by miles.
The 2023 Sequoia also includes a 96-month or 100,000-mile Hybrid Systems warranty, plus the hybrid (HV) battery is covered for 10 years from original date of first use or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first. Coverage is subject to the terms and conditions of your New Vehicle Limited Warranty. See Owner's Warranty and Maintenance Guide for details.
To start off, The Toyota Sequoia comes with available Front and Rear Parking Assist with Automatic Braking (PA w/AB) and a Panoramic View Monitor (PVM) with cameras that aren’t available options on the Ford Expedition. Now, let’s take a look at the in-car entertainment features you get with the 2023 Toyota Sequoia.
The Ford Expedition comes standard with a 12-inch center stack screen. The Toyota Sequoia only comes standard with an 8-inch Toyota Multimedia touchscreen, but you can upgrade to a 14-inch screen.
In fact, most grades will have the 14” screen In the Toyota Sequoia available. The Sequoia also comes with eight speakers standard, and can be upgraded to 14 JBL® speakers. The Ford Expedition comes in a bit lackluster here, with only six standard speakers.
Both SUVs feature internal technology devoted to safety. The Toyota Sequoia comes with up to a 10-year trial of Safety Connect® . , which is 4G network dependent, and the Ford Expedition comes with the comparable 911 Assist®. Both of these services make it easier to contact emergency services if there is an incident. Ford's feature makes it possible to reach emergency services with a paired, connected, Bluetooth-enabled phone if the airbags deploy or the fuel pump shuts off after a crash.
This comparison of the 2023 Toyota Sequoia and the 2023 Ford Expedition demonstrates that both SUVs are worthy contenders in their category. Both SUVs come in nine trim levels, however, when you consider the features and options side-by-side, the Toyota Sequoia comes out the clear winner.
