2021 Sienna vs. Voyager Comparison

When you want more room and more options that will please the whole family, a minivan is the perfect way to keep everyone happy. Looking at the 2021 Toyota Sienna and 2021 Chrysler Voyager, both are great options, but the Sienna has more standard features in multiple categories.

With Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 (TSS 2.0) standard on all Sienna models, Toyota drivers get more standard active safety features than with the Voyager. As you'll see, the Voyager doesn't offer many active driver-assistive technologies. Plus, the Sienna also has options for FWD and AWD to help keep you going in inclement weather conditions. The Voyager is only available in FWD.

If impressive fuel economy is what you're looking for, the 2021 Sienna has an all-hybrid engine lineup.

The standard features and gas savings you get with the Sienna make it a top competitor in this head-to-head matchup. Read on to see just how these two minivans compare when it comes to safety, performance, and interior offerings.

Safety

  • The 2021 Sienna comes with more standard active safety features while you'll need to purchase an optional package to get similar offerings in the Voyager.
  • The Sienna also has Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA) standard.

Whether you've got hours on the highway or are on a quick trip to the store, keeping passengers safe while you do so is a top priority. The Sienna comes packed with tons of standard safety features that help look out for you.

Standard Safety Features

With a standard Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection (PCS w/PD), Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist (LDA w/SA), Lane Tracing Assist (LTA), Automatic High Beams (AHB), Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), and Road Sign Assist (RSA) Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 (TSS 2.0) helps keep you and your family safe in the 2021 Sienna.

The Voyager standard safety features don't go much beyond their airbag system. In a market where advanced active safety features are becoming the norm, the Voyager lags behind. To get Full-Speed Forward-Collision Warning Plus, Pedestrian Emergency Braking, ParkSense® Rear Park Assist with Stop, and Advanced Brake-Assist you'd have to get the optional SafetyTec package for an additional $895.

The Voyager's SafetyTec package also includes Blind-Spot and Rear Cross-Path Detection but they do not come standard. Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA) is standard with the 2021 Sienna. However, Voyager’s SafetyTec system does not offer Road Sign Assist, which is standard on the Sienna.

Performance

  • The Sienna FWD's hybrid engine has an EPA-estimated 36/36/36 (city/highway/combined) MPG rating which is higher than all Voyager models.
  • Choose between FWD and AWD in the Sienna.
  • Make the most of your drive with Normal, ECO, EV, and Sport drive modes only available with the Sienna.

Taking performance to the next level, the 2021 Sienna features an all-hybrid powertrain lineup.

All-Hybrid Engine Minivan

With its hybrid technology, the Sienna offers outstanding gas mileage for both the AWD and FWD models. The Sienna FWD has an EPA-estimated 36/36/36 (city/highway/combined) MPG rating and the Sienna AWD has an EPA-estimated 35/36/35 (city/highway/combined) MPG rating. Comparatively, the Voyager has an EPA-estimated 19/28/23 (city/highway/combined) MPG rating on all trim levels. A hybrid option is not currently available.

Not only can you fill up less in the Sienna, you can also feel more confident driving in adverse weather conditions with the aid of available AWD. Front-wheel drive is the only option for Voyager drivers.

You get more options when choosing a Sienna model when it comes to drivetrain, but you get even more choices while you drive. Depending on where you're going, the Sienna has several drive modes including Normal, ECO, EV, and Sport. Voyager does not have available drive modes based on the information available via Chrysler’s official website.

Along with switching between driving modes, the 2021 Sienna has a standard Electronically controlled Continuously Variable Transmission (ECVT) with sequential shift mode which makes for an almost unnoticeable and swift transition between gears. The Voyager has a 9-speed automatic transmission and does not include sequential shift control.

Interior of 2021 Sienna

Interior

  • The Sienna comes standard with three-zone automatic climate control while the Voyager base model only has dual zone climate control standard.
  • You can seat up to 8 in certain Sienna models. The Voyager only seats 7.
  • The 2021 Sienna's available super-long-slide seats create versatile seating options.

Keeping you comfortable and entertained, interior features play a big role in turning your minivan into a “swagger wagon”.

Standard Convenience and Multimedia Options

No matter which Sienna model you go with you'll have a 9-in. touchscreen front and center. With Android Auto™, Apple CarPlay®, and Amazon Alexa compatibility standard, your infotainment center can do more than just look good. Plus, utilize hands-free phone capability and music streaming via Bluetooth® wireless technology and SiriusXM® with a 3-month All Access trial subscription.

On the other hand, the 2021 Voyager includes Uconnect® 4 with a 7-inch touchscreen multimedia center which has available SiriusXM®, Bluetooth® Streaming Audio, Voice Command, Hands-Free Calling, Apple CarPlay® support, and Android Auto™ integration.

While you listen to your tunes, the Voyager LX helps keep you comfortable with automatic dual zone front air conditioning. However, this feature is not available on the base model Voyager L. Taking comfort a step above, the Sienna comes standard with three-zone automatic climate control with air filter, individual temperature settings for driver, front passenger and rear-seat passengers, and a separate rear digital control panel. To get Air Conditioning with 3 Zone Temp Control in the Voyager you'd need the Climate Control Systems package for $445.

You can also seat up to 8 in the Sienna LE and XLE 8-Passenger while the Voyager only seats a maximum of 7. Plus, to make it even easier to get the kids in and out or to make more room for your things, the Sienna XLE, XSE, Limited, and Platinum with 7-Passenger seating have the super-long-slide feature standard. The Chrysler Voyager does not claim any long-slide feature on their specs page.

Conclusion: Sienna vs. Voyager

  • The Sienna has a hybrid engine that has exceptional fuel economy ratings compared to the Voyager.
  • You can also get the available super-long-slide feature in the Sienna for easy access to the second and third rows.
  • The Sienna earned the Kelley Blue Book® 2021 Minivan Best Buy award with its abundance of standard features.

When you want to ride in style and haul all the kids around at once, a minivan is the perfect vehicle to do it in. The 2021 Sienna and Voyager offer lots of great features, but the Sienna gives drivers a lot more standard safety features, better fuel efficiency ratings, and an AWD option.

For the roomy interior of a minivan and the mileage estimates of a hybrid, the Sienna FWD has an EPA-estimated 36/36/36 (city/highway/combined) MPG rating. The Voyager has an EPA-estimated 19/28/23 (city/highway/combined) MPG rating across all models. With the Sienna, spend more time on the road and less time at the pump.

Looking inside, the Sienna 7-Passenger option has more space for the kids. Whether you want easy access to a car seat or more leg room, the super-long-slide seat feature makes for a more unique seating experience. The Voyager makes no mention of a similar super-long-slide seat feature on their specs page.

It's no wonder the Sienna was awarded the 2021 Minivan Best Buy award from Kelley Blue Book®.

While both of these minivans offer the seating you need for the whole family, the 2021 Sienna is an all-hybrid vehicle that has the standard features you want and need. Ride home in the Sienna today.
